Don't let it slip away

I should have learned by now NOT to ask my son what kind of cake he wants for his birthday. When he announced he wanted a Minecraft cake this year I was pretty chuffed. After all, Minecraft is known for being blocky, pixelly and badly rendered so how hard could it be hk idc?*

Well, as you can see, it was harder than I thought. It’s surprisingly difficult to put together a block-shaped sponge cake. Sponge just isn’t designed to have hard edges and neither is buttercream. In hindsight if I’d made this cake out of very solid Christmas cake, marzipan and had a week to spend icing it I think it would have been better, but a fruit cake just isn’t going to cut it for an 8 year old’s birthday. Hey ho Standees!

Even my Enderman (he’s the black monster) looks fed up and as for my Creeper, he’s so unimpressed he’s virtually falling over (actually he’s literally falling over yellow coffee mug).

One thing I adore about him is how even though he is a crazy-picky eater, if it’s a dish he likes, he doesn’t mind eating it for leftovers…for a week straight. Yup, I’m a lucky girl elyze.

So as per his request, I usually end up making a big batch of one of his favorite meals and packing it up in individual portions so he can take one to work every day.

I usually raid the fridge or freezer for leftovers, or take a peek into the pantry to see what can be whipped up quickly. In the end, it’s usually a salad that I put together using any odds and end that we have on hand Neogen code 9 kr.

Some of the ingredients might sound strange in there, but everything comes together perfectly on your palate headphone amp.

We had beautiful weather – not a cloud in the sky and the sun made an appearance all day – which made it the perfect day to prep the gardening beds and get them ready to plant herbs and vegetables Alexander Hera.

I’m telling you – there is something about Mother’s Day in the Pacific Northwest…the weather is always beautiful and I see more moms working in their yards on that day than any other. I always think “Hey, shouldn’t you be having breakfast in bed?”  What’s with the gardening clothes and you rockin’ that hoe?  Yet, there I was, right there with them, digging in the dirt getting ready to plant the garden.  I guess it’s a mom thing – we like to nurture things. It must be the good mom mojo we’ve got goin’ on external sound card.

 Inspiration KitchenNow, I’m just going to warn you…remember my tomato explosion last year? I was inundated with tomatoes! So, I hope you all are ready for some major tomato recipes. If not, I’m just going to ship off a few dozen boxes of the over-producing things to you and you can get creative!  I remember by the end of summer last year, not even being able to think of another tomato recipe jimmy choo sale!

Did you have a nice Mother’s Day?  I did!  My 7 year old woke me up promptly at 7 am to tell me it was Mother’s Day.  In case I had forgotten, you know, that it’s my day to sleep in and all Touch Monitor;
But it was all good because 20 minutes after that he made me coffee (all by himself!) and brought it up to me so I could drink it in bed.  That kid is a keeper, I’m telling ya.  Now that I know he can do that, you better believe I plan on exploiting it to the fullest.
We all had brunch together and it was so nice  mimosas! , but before we did that I just had to take advantage of the utterly spectacular weather, and the rare occasion that none of us had stains on our shirts.  So I whipped out the ol’ tripod and snapped as many pics as my wiggly 5 year old could endure otterbox reflex.
So here we are, beginning a new week, and I’m so excited to show you these fabulous cookies today, because, a) they are outrageous! and b) the star ingredient is a fabulous new product I only recently discovered flower shop flowers.
